Kung Fu Hustle [CIN] |

SUMMARY:
It's really not often that I can say I've gone to see a movie that i knew virtually nothing about. While it does happen from time to time, mostly I'll have visited the official web page or at least have checked out what the flick heads at IMDB have to say about it, before stepping into the cinema. However, other than the name of the guy who wrote it and what I'd seen in the trailers I knew very little about KUNG FU HUSTLE when I bought my ticket.
Sometimes it's a gamble that pays off, other times you end seeing something like EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY and swear you'll never go to the movies again.. So, what about this time? Did this gamble pay off?

SUMMARY:
I've been gunning for it for a while now, that elusive movie and session time combination that would grant me the whole cinema to myself.. And I finally managed to pull it off!
The session: 11:00 am. The movie THE LORDS OF DOGTOWN, Although now the question remains, Is having a cinema all to yourself a sign that the movie isn't worth seeing? Or is it just the fact that the movie isn't really getting the same kind of publicity that some of the Hollywood big guns have been backed by lately? There's only one way to find out - Read on my friend!

Unleashed [CIN] |

SUMMARY:
I can remember seeing Lethal Weapon 4 for the first time and being blown away by the action sequences that introduced us westerners to the skill of Jet Li.
Since then he's made a string of action movies, some good, some not so good - but each of them harnessed Li's greatest asset - his fighting ability. But if history is anything to go by being known as a pure action movie star gains you very little in the way of respect in the long term.. Just ask Dolph Lundgren!
So what can we expect from Li in his latest: UNLEASHED? Read on and I'll tell you!

Land of the Dead [CIN] |

SUMMARY: Ok, it's taken some doing.. but, I've actually found a film that I was interested in reviewing that isn't an adaptation from a comic or classic novel, that isn't a remake (or re-imagining or whatever the hell they call them now days).. although.. it IS a sequel.. what's worse - it's a sequel to a remake!
So, what's the film? it's George A. Romero's Land of the Dead.. that's what you have to call it too, you've got to include the "George A. Romero" bit at the start,,, AND, you have to do it in that creepy announcers voice.... all together now: George A. Romero's Land of the Dead!
Right, now read the review. |

SUMMARY:
When Grraf-Nig told me that I had to review The Island for the good people here at Gamespace I was stunned. I mean, while I love you all.. Everyone of you.. Yes, even you! I couldn't believe that I was being asked to do such a thing!
When I protested, Grraf asked what the problem was. When I said "Michael Bay Directed it! You know, the guy who did Pearl Harbour!!" the phone fell silent for a moment, I actually began to think we'd been disconnected when Grraf finally replied. "Look, if you take this one for the team I'll let you review Land of the Dead next week!"
SOLD! Here's your stinkin' review of The Island.... |

Flight of the Phoenix [CIN] |

SUMMARY:
This week my trip to the movies was a somewhat lonely one. Seeing the early seasons a film that I'm going to review is my way of ensuring that there are as few people in the cinema as possible, but with all the big budget block busters that have been on the marquees over the last month or so most of the early sessions have been reasonably well populated. Well, not this time. This week it was just me and three other losers forcing the projectionist to actually run the film through the machine... Perfect! So, the environment was right... what about the movie?

Sin CIty [Cin] |

SUMMARY:
Number four of four... This here is the fourth film in a row to be reviewed by yours truly that's the result of an adaptation from a literary source. From the mind of Frank Miller, Sin City is suffering from 'lack of awareness' as most of the promotional hype has died down as a result of its delayed release here. So its performance in the box office may suffer a little as a result.
The question is, does it live up to the high praise that it received when it was released in US cinemas? Or is this the stinker that we're all expecting to arrive any day now?

Fantastic Four [CIN] |

| Posted by elroy |
SUMMARY:
So. I'm standing there.. It's 9:30 am and I'm about to buy a ticket to see Fantastic Four. Why 9:30 am? I've got two words for you... "School" and "Holidays" - The fact is, I'm totally expecting this movie to bite. I'm really not "9:30 am" kind of keen to see it, I just don't want to have to put up with a cinema full of unruly brats, particularly if this movie stinks as much as I expect it to... so.. does it?
The only way to find out if the movie lives up (down?) to my expectations and if I ended up beating any children is to read the review!

War of the Worlds [CIN] |

| SUMMARY:
I said at the start of my Batman Begins review that this was a great time for fanboys, such as myself. I then went on to the praise the new Batman title as it was a movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. Now, here we are, War of the Worlds has hit screens. Batman was good, really good... Surely it would be too much to ask for two sci-fi/fantasy movies in a row to be any good.. right? Surely there's some kind of cost involved? For every good sci-fi/fantasy movie we get we have to endure a dozen or so real stinkers? It seems to work that way... so, do we start paying for Batman Begins with War of the Worlds? Or can we put this one on the tab?

Batman Begins [CIN] |

| SUMMARY: Man oh man - What a time it is to be a fanboy! I can hardly sleep at night knowing that there's a flood, neh, tsunami, of sci-fi/superhero movies on the approach! Fantastic 4, War of the worlds, The Island, to name three. The biggest question however. is about none of those movies - it's about the return of the dark knight. It's about... [dramatic pause]... The Batman!
When last we were visited by the caped crusader - well, lets be honest... it sucked. How can this movie possibly be any good?
